We’ve been filling out applications for grants and other assistance from the beginning of this little adventure. Last week, we received a check for a month’s worth of rent. Every little bit helps.
Now that March is upon us, the weather is warming up. Which, of course, means that mud season is on the way. Since the wildfire took out the grasses and turned the rest of the property to ash, the next part of our job will be very messy. While neighbor Glenn got most of the debris cleaned up, we still have a bit of raking, shoveling, and hauling before we’re ready to build. Our first project will be a DIY shed. Right now, we are keeping all of our treasures in a trailer made from a converted truck bed. In days gone by, we used it to haul our trash. Now we’re using it to store the treasures we discovered in the debris.
The other event of note this week is that I am now vaccinated against the covid virus. The county health department sent out notifications, and I was lucky enough to score an appointment yesterday. I got the new single-dose shot, while First Reader and Best Riding Buddy & Roomie received each of the other vaccines. Other than my arm and shoulder being a little achy, I have a bit of a headache and a lot of fatigue. That should pass in a day or so.
We need to go through our other storage unit and decide what to keep and what to get rid of. As the weather permits, we will get back up the mountain and prepare a spot for a new shed. Let the work begin.
