Summer Fun

July is my favorite month of the year. I’m a summer baby, and I love the sun, but it’s not just that. It’s also the month I get to spend with the grandkids that live in another state. 😊 They are at the fun age where they’re old enough to play most games but young enough that hanging out with grandma is still cool.

Well, that and I have someone to play board games with. We’ve spent time playing Apples to Apples®, Sorry!®, and Munchkin®. While they’re here, they want to go up to our property and see what’s left. They weren’t ready last summer, and I can’t say I blame them. What was once our home looks entirely different now.

Early in the week, we went to the local comic store, grabbed an open table, and sat down to play for a few hours. I got them out of the house for my bonus daughters, and we all got to spend some time together. The next time we all gathered, we set up a table in the basement and played a couple of games while moms worked.

For the rest of the month, I’ll spend more time with the kids as we work our way through more board games and get outside while the weather is nice. Our area has plenty of outdoor activities like hiking and biking. Still, it’s hard to find the energy to climb a mountain when it’s 95° and the sun is trying to bake your brain.

It’s good to feel like a kid again, even if it’s only for a couple of hours. I enjoy getting a little silly with the kids and letting them know that it’s okay to not be serious all the time. Being with a gaggle of grandkids as we play together energizes me. Now, I just need to replenish my supply of board games, old and new.

  1. Yeah, I’m with a couple of my grandkids on the coast of Oregon. Beach during the day, games in the evening, gangs of fun…
