Rebuilding the Dream, Pt 48

Time seems to crawl along, yet before we know it, a week has passed with seemingly little progress. We did have one event of note this week. We talked to our sales team and picked the colors for our new home. Other than that, our week was filled with friends and family visiting from distant locales.

First Reader has family attending one of the nearby universities. So, we spent a day getting to know his mom while he was in classes. She spent another day walking the streets of Estes Park with them. Other friends of the family arrived Friday after canceling two previous flights because of a sick child. That’s where I spent my time. We’ll be spending more time with them while my kids are at work.

Today, we are stuffing our storage unit even more with a couple of furniture donations. After these items, we will have to wait until we move into our new place. We can’t afford another storage unit. This means we really need a house for all our stuff.

This coming week, I’ll talk to our contractor about getting a soils test done where we want to put the house. That will be one of the first steps in getting the foundation in place. Another is getting the plans engineered to hold the home. By this time next week, we should have a better idea of how much the basement will cost and when it will be complete.

We’re nibbling away at this project. As our case manager reminds us: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
