Today is New Year’s Eve. We are at the cusp of a new year and a new decade. A lot of us make resolutions that might last a week, sometimes more, rarely long enough to make an impact.
So, what are my resolutions for the new year?
Well, because I’m not working a traditional job, I need to figure out a source of modest income, my severance package won’t last forever. I have options, though. I could look for a traditional job, but being a handful of years from the government retirement age, I figure my chances are slim and none. Slim’s on his way out of town.
Another option is the temporary agencies.
When I first landed in this city, my first stop was one of the places that fit people to short-term employment. That has always been my fall-back whenever I needed to work for a while. I like the flexibility of being able to step back and say the job is not a good fit. I’ve done that, but that was a very long time ago. I doubt that would happen now. I have a better idea of what a good fit for me is.
Of course, I could peddle my experience to some of the local colleges and universities. I have a few skills that could help grad students with papers. The trick is getting a foot in the door. Luckily, I still have a few contacts at the university, I have to get off my backside and reach out. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I’m sure you have more to do today than read about my plan for the coming year. What do you have in the works for the new beginning before you?
