Fire and Motorcycle Update

As of yesterday afternoon, the Alexander Mountain fire is fully (100%) contained. This is good news for those of us that live in the mountains.

Shortly after we left for South Dakota, monsoonal rains caused flash flood warnings in the burned areas and active fire zones along the Front Range. While we live in a burn scar, our property is also mostly a meadow that regained its greenery in the spring following the Cameron Peak Fire.

The few gullies on the property neatly divert most water around our house. Several natural washes drain from the hillside above. When we landscaped around the house, we added a couple of diversion trenches to divert even water around our home and parking area. In the past, we had more than one microburst that flooded the house. We had to replace flooring in several rooms because the old carpeting got saturated.

In other news, I took my motorcycle to the shop that repaired it last year. I chatted with the service manager and got the complete story about the repair. The service tech involved is no longer employed there. I left feeling less grumpy than before. I’m still not happy about dropping more money into a repair that wasn’t done right to begin with, but they knocked off almost a third of the original estimate. Yay me?

Oh, and First Reader came home with covid. (roll eyes) I did not (so far). I am staying in the spare room until she no longer tests positive.
