Rebuilding the Dream, Pt 164

We have spent the week moving. Because of the condition of our driveway, we’re finding that a pickup brigade is working best. After moving all that heavy stuff in Grandson’s delivery vehicle last Saturday, we had to pull the van out of the driveway on Sunday. We decided that if incoming cars and trucks don’t have four-wheel drive, we’ll transfer stuff into 4×4’s porting it all down to the house. Oh, the joy of mountain living. 😉

Thursday, we began the Big Move(TM) out of Best Riding Buddy’s house. First Reader has been steadily packing the small stuff that she had, but I dragged my feet until it was time to pack. We stayed at the new house that night, then spent Friday moving boxes down into the basement. The house doesn’t look so much like a hoarder’s den anymore. We still have a ton of boxes to sort through upstairs, but those are mostly clothes that will get put away or sent off to one of the many clothing resellers in the area.

Saturday, we trekked back into town to pack a few more things we need from Best Riding Buddy’s place. We also went to the grocery store to shop for those necessaries we have either used (milk products) or didn’t already have on hand (fresh food).

Now that we’re living in the new house, we’re learning how to stay comfortable. I adjusted the furnace on our first night to match the temperature we were accustomed to before our lives were upended. We both spent an uncomfortably warm night trying to sleep in the new bed. The second night, I turned it down another three degrees, and we both slept well. The house has good insulation, so we can keep the furnace set lower than we initially thought. Yay us.

We have a few more ducks to line up before we’re completely comfortable. Our storage units are half empty, so we’ll spend more time in the coming days driving back and forth to get everything out. Today, though, we’re taking a day off to recharge our batteries. Tomorrow we’ll be back at it.
