It’s been another busy week as we work on the last of the tasks we need to get into the house. We’re waiting on the last of the prior inspection failures to pass on the second round. After that, we’ll look into what we need for the temporary Certificate of Occupancy.

The basement insulation made a huge difference.
We needed to get the steps into the house done, at both front and back sliding glass doors. Friday and Saturday, we went up with friends and family to complete that task. While we were there, we also cleaned the basement and took more construction trash to the dump. We called to have the radon mitigation system installed and the gas orifices in the furnace and the water heater changed from natural gas to propane (LPG). The tech also tuned the furnace and adjusted the burners and fans.

The disappearing construction trash.
The most strenuous part of our tasks was getting the landscaping blocks in place and leveled at both entrances. The blocks are remnants of the old house and seem like the perfect material to use as our temporary steps. They’ll be a pain in the keester to get out when the time comes, but they’re sturdier than anything else we can put up at a moment’s notice. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the building department thinks so, too.

The new (temporary) steps into the kitchen.

The new (temporary) steps into the basement.
First Reader and I cooked our first meal for the group that came up to help with the steps and cleanup. We baked pizzas for everyone. (grin)

What was left of the pizza.
Soon, we’ll cook a proper meal in our new house. We just wish we could pin down a date.
