Rebuilding the Dream, Pt 158

What a week.

We pushed to get the propane piping finished so we could get the furnace running before the arctic blast hit the region. Our major concern was filling the trenches before the freezing temperatures affected our water supply.

The weather-guessers forecast the cold front to arrive Friday. We put a call out to our community for anyone with equipment to please push dirt into the trenches. Our neighbor came over on Thursday evening and backfilled the water, propane, and septic trenches. The temperature dropped into the teens on the mountain that night. Friday afternoon, the propane man made time in his schedule to finish the propane regulator and help us get the heat going into the house. *whew*

Afternoon frost lingers on the trees.

Mr. Contractor also had the subcontractor in to add the insulation to the basement walls. I believe that might be the best improvement we made in the house. As the workers covered the inside walls with insulated blankets, we could feel the temperature difference. We have confirmation from Mr. Contractor that we’ll have more inspections coming up in the next week. And we’ve scheduled a radon company to come in and complete the work on the trap and filters.

More basement insulation.

Our next major task will be to get the water system running. We found an errant hose last week that we need to plug before we pressurize the system, so we’re waiting for that minor repair to proceed.

We’re inching closer to moving into our new abode. Keep your fingers crossed that we get our temporary occupancy before Thanksgiving.
