This has been a stressful week. We’ve reached the inspection stage of the project. The inspectors discovered a few minor issues and two major ones. One of the major issues is the need to rebuild the basement staircase. We caught one inspector as he was leaving the property a few days ago, and he verified a few things for us regarding the temporary Certificate of Occupancy. It was good to hear some good news for a change.
First Reader and I continue working on getting the construction trash out of the way. We thought about getting a roll-off dumpster, but the cost of even a small one was out of our range. So, we moved one of our small trailers into place, laid out a heavy tarp, and began loading trash. As we move the debris into the trailer, we’re picking out whatever material is still usable. I’m sure that once we get moved in, we’ll have a hundred little things we wish we had the lumber for. When the trailer is as full as we want, we haul it off to the county landfill for disposal. Lather, rinse, repeat until the pile is gone.
We have our sights set on having that TCO in hand by the end of November. We may only have a small gathering for Thanksgiving, but the thought of being almost settled in our new house is a reason for gratitude. Until then, we’ll continue to clean the grounds around the house and get the trash in the basement shoveled out so we can move in.

Progress on the new house.
Our new home is almost ready for us.
