What a ride!

Getting ready to leave.
We arrived at our cabin around 7:00 PM Sunday evening. The ride was cooler this year than in previous years. Wearing the proper gear is key to a comfortable ride, so the cool temperatures and intermittent clouds were a challenge.
I learned a long time ago that layers are important. Every stop along the way, I changed one item or another and never got the right combination. We pulled into the Gaslight Dining Saloon (https://www.thegaslightrestaurant.com/) in Rockerville (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockerville,_South_Dakota) around 5:30 PM. I wasn’t the only one in the pack ready to stand in front of a fire. We were all shivery by then. Unfortunately, the only hot drink available was coffee. Thanks, but I need to sleep.
Despite my good intentions, I didn’t sleep well at all. Normally, I handle my bouts of insomnia by getting out of bed and going into another room to read until my eyelids get heavy. Alas, we aren’t home, so my only recourse was to turn on the phone doom-scroll for a couple of hours. That kind of interrupted sleep leads to a cranky morning. Well, that and the lack of coffee. That little thing they have on the counter that they call a “coffee maker” is a joke in disguise. I expect to see something like that in a cheap motel, not a membership camping resort.
We had enough time to get to Walmart and back before the rain started. Of course, it being Rally week, their shelves were full of Rally wear, but not so much with the food items we needed. The rest of the day, we sat in the cabin listening to the rain on the roof. At least we aren’t in a tent, so it could be worse.
Tomorrow is another day, so maybe the weather will clear out and we’ll be able to find the things we couldn’t today.
