Every year, our region experiences monsoon season. A confluence of weather changes in the desert southwest, Gulf of Mexico, and Pacific Ocean draws moisture in from the south. This moisture clashes with the build-up of hot air in northern areas, which leads to afternoon thunderstorms. One year, the city recorded about six inches of rain in a 90-minute span. That caused a few problems around town, let me tell you.
The rain takes its toll on the burn scars, as well as any new building going on. Flood warnings are in effect for the Cameron Peak Fire () burn scar. One area of the main burned area is already closed because of recent heavy downpours. Our driveway is suffering from the heavy rain and lack of traffic. (:-/)

We’re still waiting for contractors. Now that we have numbers in place, the next hurdle is finding the bodies to do the job.
This morning, First Reader, Best Riding Buddy, and I left for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. I’ve loaded the week with quotes, but if I have a stable Internet connection, I’ll post a little about our trip while we’re out riding around the Black Hills.
