Last week, First Reader commented I wrote a nice weather report. She isn’t wrong since that’s been our biggest hold up since October. I did a little research on the copious amounts of rainfall this spring and discovered that the city received over twelve inches of rain in May and June. Keep in mind that this area typically gets around four-and-a-half inches during that same time frame in an average year. I’d say we’re far ahead of the average right now. No wonder we don’t have our house yet.
The latest news is that they’ll bring the house down from its current storage spot on July 5, weather permitting, of course. The crane to set the house will follow on July 7, so they’ll have to stage the halves somewhere at the bottom of the mountain for a day. For now, the weather forecast is mostly rain-free for the next ten days. That can change, though. This region is known for its rapid and unpredictable weather shifts. I’m hoping everything goes as planned on the 7th.
This gives First Reader and me time to get more of the grasses cut and trimmed around the work site. We went up early last week to begin the job. FR mowed a couple of acres while I took the weed-whacker to the areas she couldn’t get close to. We’ll be going back up this week to continue. I want to trim the areas around the house so the work crews don’t have to worry about snakes in the long grass.

After mowing the field.
We’re keeping our fingers (and toes, and arms, and eyes) crossed that we’ll finally get this project moving instead of waiting “two more weeks.”
