We are still under a weather delay. This past week has ‘blessed’ us with over three inches of rain. So far, June has brought four-plus inches of precipitation to a city that doesn’t see two inches of the wet stuff in a typical year.
However, this year is far from typical.
I expect temperatures to jump this next week, though. As of yesterday afternoon, the forecast calls for sunshine and close to ninety degrees. It will be a welcome change from the rainy fifties and sixties we’ve experienced for the past few weeks. With luck, conditions will change enough for the house movers to get our house from its temporary place to its permanent foundation.
We aren’t the only ones champing at the bit. I informed the Powers That Be on the mountain about the move, and the first schedule got scrapped because of the weather. Now I get regular calls asking when this is going to happen. As soon as I have a date, so will they. The last we heard, it could happen by the last week in June. I think part of the delays might be scheduling issues as much as anything.
First Reader and I plan to drive up and mow the meadow this coming week. We want to keep the noxious weeds from taking over again. I’ll use our weed-whacker to get the stuff the mower can’t reach, while FR scares herself on the riding mower. Someday, maybe we’ll get something to pull behind the ATV. That way, we could keep more of the field from turning into tinder in the dry season.
For now, we remain as patient as we’re able.
