Rebuilding the Dream, Pt 138

This week saw more progress on our house.

The framing crew was up at the property on Tuesday, but ran into a few mechanics problems with a couple of their trucks. First, the young fellow who came last week to measure for materials neglected to tell his crew about our driveway’s steepness and condition. So, the truck that delivered the materials did not have trailer brakes. That, and one pickup arrived onsite with a pinhole in the radiator hose. Consequently, the job didn’t get started until Wednesday.

First Reader and I had planned a cabin excursion for the week with some family. We left the crew to their work, otherwise I’d have in-progress pictures. A neighbor sent us this picture of the work in progress.

We returned home early in the afternoon on Friday. I hurried right back out with a check for Mr. Sub-Contractor so he can pay the framing crew. The reward for all the extra running around I had to do (I didn’t even have a chance to shower, I needed to get places before they closed for the weekend), is that we now have a (tentative) delivery date for our home—June 13.

I say ‘tentative,’ because Mother Nature has been blessing our mountains with copious amounts of rain. Too much rain will affect the access road up which the house must travel. (The property is five miles from pavement, and the vertical elevation change is close to one thousand feet.) In the winter, we faced icy conditions. This spring we’re facing slimy mud conditions. The forecast for the next ten days calls for—you guessed it—more rain.

I figure that’s on par for this project. I mean, why not? Now that we have a reliable contractor and forward motion, why wouldn’t the Universe get in our way one more time? (eyeroll) We’ll see what happens on June 13. If we get another weather delay, well, I’ll mentally scream into the void and carry on another week… or two… or whatever.

A sneak peek of our view. Pardon the clouds. Mother Nature is busy greening the grass.

If good things come to those who wait, this is going to be freaking amazing!
